About this Event
Faculty and staff are invited to join the Center for Global Diversity and Inclusion for the first Think, Live, Engage (TLE) - Courageous Conversations Roundtable discussion of 2022. We will venture beyond surface definitions or examples of cultural appropriation versus appreciation, and get at the heart of the issue: the role of power and histories of erasure.
In our incredibly diverse community at Agnes Scott, where are we in terms of recognizing and affirming cultures while teaching folks to appreciate—as opposed to appropriate? If one of us is being told that we are appropriating or otherwise not fully honoring a culture, how should we respond? Finally, how can we teach about and celebrate cultures to which we do not belong in a responsible manner, thus modeling good behavior for our students? Wendy Yu will facilitate a safe and open environment for dialogue and learning that is designed to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the campus community.
Location: Zoom link will be sent to participants once they register.
Participation will be limited to 25 faculty and staff members only.
