About this Event

Even in 2022, period poverty affects women here in the United States and more detrimentally women worldwide. It is astonishing to find how scarce and expensive feminine products are, especially in rural areas. In foreign countries, period products are a luxury; in Ghana, products are sold in small packs for much more than the typical family makes per week. The cost incorporates several taxes imposed on feminine products, the largest being a 20% import tax. To put it in perspective, imagine having to drive over thirty miles to purchase your feminine product of choice and it is over $100. This is what it feels like in other countries like Ghana and therefore women are expected to go without. Because of this, Graduate Studies and Graduate Honor Council has partnered with Project1000Pads has partnered and will be hosting a Period Product Drive. Donations will benefit school-aged girls in rural Ghana affected by the lack of resources necessary to live humanely during their monthly menstrual cycle.
