The Gladden Award is given to a member of the Agnes Scott faculty whose scholarly activities are especially noteworthy. Recipients are asked to give a public lecture to the Agnes Scott community on a topic related to their scholarly work. The Gladden Public Lecture Series is named for Joseph R. Gladden Jr., chair of the Agnes Scott Board of Trustees from 1992 to 2002. This year, we honor Professor of English, Nicole Stamant.

Nicole Stamant, Fuller E. Callaway Professor of English, specializes in Life Writing and American Literature. She is the author of Memoirs of Race, Color, and Belonging (2022) and Serial Memoir: Archiving American Lives (2014), and her journal articles have appeared in South Atlantic Review, MELUS, English Language Notes, and Studies in Comics, among others; she has also contributed to several edited collections. She currently serves as the managing editor of a/b: Auto/Biography Studies and as President of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA). Her current project considers hospitality in culinary memoir. As this year’s recipient of the Joseph R. Gladden Jr. Public Lecture Award, Professor Stamant will present her lecture entitled, "Ethical Encounters: Considering Hospitality in Culinary Memoir".
