Georgia STARTALK Summer Institute for Language Teachers

Georgia STARTALK Teacher Program: Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Russian will recruit 20 motivated Georgia-based pre-service and in-service teachers. The program will offer two tracks: one track for initial training toward certification in Georgia public schools* and one track for training in professional leadership. Participants in both tracks will strengthen understanding of standards-based language education, develop backward-designed thematic units, and experience micro-teaching with follow-up peer-reflections. By the end of the program, teacher participants will be familiar with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards, STARTALK-endorsed principles, TELL Criteria, and (in the professional leadership track) presenter goals and strategies. (*certification is not included in this program)

To participate, teachers must be committed to the entire program, including the following components:

Pre-program: online (6 hours asynchronous in early July)

Program Dates: July 12-18, 2021; residential at Agnes Scott College

Post-Program Expectations: Fall 2021 (10 hours asynchronous & 2 hours synchronous)
