The Departments of Religious Studies and Physics and Astronomy and the Asian Studies Program welcome Buddhist nun, Ven. Thubten Rinchen (who was formerly a physics professor at Agnes Scott, under her former name of Dr. Nicole Ackerman) for a talk entitled, “Engaging From the Inside Out”.

We all can aspire to think deeply, live honorably, and engage in the intellectual and social challenges of our times. How do we know if we are thinking logically? What does it mean to live honorably? Does having a college degree signify that we can engage these challenges effectively?

Knowledge and skills are very important, but the capability to work with our mind and emotions is critical. If we don't ever get graded on that capacity, will we prioritize it? Venerable Thubten Rinchen, a former physics professor at Agnes Scott, explains why she became a Buddhist nun and shares approaches that anyone can use to help fulfill their aspirations.
