About this Event
141 East College Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030
Stop by the Zoo Atlanta table in Evans between 12-2pm to speak with the Director of Volunteer Programs about Internship and Adult Volunteer Opportunities. Zoo Atlanta internships are eligible for ASC's summer Advantage Award funding if you meet the qualifications as a student. Also, the Zoo has three different volunteer program options for adults over the age of 18. All of their volunteer options are listed here: zooatlanta.org/program-type/volunteer-programs/
As Atlanta's oldest cultural institution, Zoo Atlanta has come a long way since opening in 1889. From the fascinating series of events that led to Atlanta's first Zoo, to the legendary Willie B silverback gorilla, to the history of their Giant Panda Program, to conservation partnerships around the world, Zoo Atlanta transformed from one of the worst Zoos in America (1980s) to a premier, AZA-accredited Zoological institution. Only 10% of licensed animal exhibitors in the US achieve AZA accreditation. Also, Zoo Atlanta is currently ranked #3 in the top ten of institutions producing publications directly related to improving animal welfare.
