Join this hands-on & collaborative leadership intensive to explore sustainability topics with other students in Atlanta!

Inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and other roleplaying games, Beyond Waste Summits have attendees portray students at the fictional “Emergence University” and work together to build conceptual campus sustainability projects.

Students collaborate on activities like mapping key stakeholders, creating a social media strategy, and planning the logistics for an event. These encourage in-depth program planning, troubleshooting, and leadership development skills. At the end of the day, students present their work to a “Board of Trustees” and gain experience with both giving & receiving feedback.

The project simulations highlighted in this event will be:

1. Compost
It has long been realized that all of the food waste from the campus dining halls goes in the trash. Students are interested in crafting a better, more innovative solution. In this simulation, students will work on setting up a compost system that fits the needs of the Emergence University campus.

2. Thrift Store
Though there is a significant interest in Sustainable Fashion and campus clothing swaps, there is no thrift store on campus. In this simulation, students will work on building a permanent, accessible, and welcoming space where students have access to discounted and secondhand items.

3. Move-Out Program
Students going home for the Summer always leave their stuff on campus. There is a need to figure out a better solution, including where and how to store items at the end of the year. In this simulation, students will work on creating a circular move-out system.
