ACME Lecture Series

The annual Academic Colloquia Monthly Exchange Lecture Series features Agnes Scott faculty presentations on research works. Here are the speakers this year:

Thursday, September 30: Joel Thomas, Dept. of Psychology

"Psychological Distress, Healing, and the Self: An Alternative to the Medical Model"
This talk will advance a framework for understanding a wide range of signs and symptoms of human psychological distress as stemming from emotional pain and basic learning processes, rather than intrinsic deficits or dysfunctions. The framework contends that the construction of “self” and need for self-intelligibility are critical to understanding the effects of traumatic experience on identity as well as the healing process.

Bring your lunch and join us in Lower Evans at 1 p.m. this Thursday, September 30.

Thursday, November 11: Nell Ruby, Dept. of Art & Art History

Thursday, February 10: Alexandra Yep, Dept. of Physics and Astronomy
