The Gladden Award is given to a member of the Agnes Scott faculty whose scholarly activities are especially noteworthy. Recipients are asked to give a public lecture to the Agnes Scott community on a topic related to their scholarly work. The Gladden Public Lecture Series is named for Joseph R. Gladden Jr., chair of the Agnes Scott Board of Trustees from 1992 to 2002.

“Ink on Paper: Surface, Discovery and Transformation" Synopsis: In her fall 2021 Gladden Lecture, Professor Anne Beidler will present, Ink on Paper: Surface, Discovery and Transformation. She explores the concept of the intimate visual conversation between the artist and the viewer. Her work often contains layered levels and sequenced images. At the center of her visual exploration is the technical overlay of various print methods, sewing, and images, which include her drawings, photographs and found textures. She maintains a strong dialogue with the work of poets such as W.S. Merwin, Gary Snyder, Mary Oliver, Primo Levi and the Tang Dynasty poet-monk Han Shan. Beidler’s lecture coincides with a solo exhibition this fall titled, Anne Beidler: Recent Work in the Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College.
